St. Christopher, the first Caribbean island to be permanently settled by both the English and the French (who shared the island between 1627 and 1713 ), was a model and a springboard for English and French colonialism in the Caribbean and elsewhere.

Flying of flag at Citadel at half-mast on Remembrance Day


In honour of our sons and daughters who gave their lives in both World Wars, the flag of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis which is flown from atop the Fort George Citadel at the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park shall be flown at half-mast on Remembrance Day Sunday 11 November 2012. Visitors to Brimstone Hill are encouraged to visit the new “Calling to Arms” exhibit in the Campbell Evelyn and Helen Skerritt Exhibit Room at the Fort George Museum, which pays to tribute to those who have defended our nation.
